1) Breathless:
"I wrote that with Mutt Lange in Switzerland. It's a bizarre situation, going to meet someone for the first time and trying to write a song with them but it worked great. It's about tempting someone to make the first move - come on and leave me breathless. You know the scene. The daylight is fading and nothing matters but the two people who are there..." -Andrea
2)Give Me A Reason:
"I took a little house in Glendalough to work on some stuff on my own and that was one of the first songs I did. Andrea liked it and came up with the lyrics. I was thinking of Simon and Garfunkel meets William Orbit and it's got a strongly melancholic thread running through it." -Jim
3)Somebody For Someone:
"I started that on piano and then went round to Andrea's to finish it. Then we went straight into the studio and did it really fast in a day. It's full of hope that there is somebody out there for everybody, although the story is kind of tragic." -Caroline
4)Say:
"I was watching MTV one night when Oasis came on with Masterplan. I love that song and it inspired me to get the guitar out and write this using my remedial chords." -Sharon
5)All The Love In The World:
"This is the third song with Mutt and it's different from the other two because it's a ballad. I suppose I'm a romantic. It's saying love's precious and not to be thrown away or taken lightly. I wrote it in the first person for effect." -Andrea
6)Radio:
"That was also on the Unplugged album but I originally wrote it for Talk On Corners. I wrote it the day after I had written So Young. I wrote a third one in the same week but it was crap. You can't get three in a row!"-Sharon
7)Irresistible:
"Another one I wrote with Mutt. We started in his house then we went up into the forest with his guitar and we wrote it there. It's a love song but it's tongue in cheek. There's a bit of flattery in there! But however you want to interpret it is fine." -Andrea
8)One night:
"That's another one that started with me and Andrea. It's for a movie. Sometimes I have to nag her a bit to write. She can be quite reluctant at first but once she gets started she won't shut up." -Caroline
9)All In A Day:
"We did a demo of that back stage at a concert in France even before Talk On Corners. It's very difficult to write on the road because it's so intense. You're usually working an 18-hour day. So it was quite unusual." - Jim
10)At Your Side:
"That was always meant for this album but when we recorded the Unplugged album last year they wanted to put some new stuff on it and this song seemed to fit." - Sharon
11)No More Cry:
"Caroline started that and we wrote it for Daddy after Mummy died. It's saying stop the pain. Reach out and believe in her love. It rocks a bit, too, like Garbage or Blondie or something. We've never considered ourselves a rock band but it felt natural to go there." -
Andrea.
13)Rain:
"The title refers to the mood because I wanted it to sound like a rainy night in New Orleans. It's a kind of late night song. The lyrics are about a moment of clarity brought about by meeting the love of your life." -Sharon
14)Give It All Up:
"That was me and Sharon. I loved that element of reggae that the Police got into their music and that off-beat piano. It's just a groove that I really enjoy. We added the brass at the last minute." -Jim
15)Hurt Before:
"It's sort of autobiographical but sometimes it's easier to write in the third person. I don't want to give my whole self away - but I know I am anyway. It's about being hurt and sometimes you just have to grow up and step outside of that and take whatever is going to come your way and open your heart. There. I'm embarrassed now!" - Andrea
16)Rebel Heart (instrumental):
"I wrote it in Malibu on piano when we were recording "Talk On Corners." It sat around for a long time and then the BBC were looking for some music for their big autumn drama about the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland. It has a very Irish melody and we added the tin
whistle and so on and it fitted the bill." - Sharon
